Our Farm |
| |
Our farm is a unique, habitat compatible place. We are tucked away beside preserved land and have a number of wild visitors. Our priority is the safety of our alpacas and llama and we have done our best to construct a protected home for them. We strive to keep all creatures happy around here and to respect the surrounding ecosystem. We are blessed to have a wonderful support system of neighbors and friends! They have rescued us in every crisis large and small! Whether it is to check on the animals or to help with a downed tree in the middle of the night - we have the best friends in the whole world!
Meet the boys who make our world go around: |
| |
| VAF Rosario’s Rudolf – Totally uninhibited and full of himself, this little guy has us all convinced he is the center of the universe. At the same time he is both loving and mischievous! He has lots of fine, bright medium fawn fleece with outstanding uniformity. He has ribbons from fleece competition but I love him because he reminds me not to take life to seriously and gives me such beautiful yarn to play with! |
| |
| Midnight Valentino – Adventuresome and courageous describe our boy Val but so does sweet, trusting, and loving! Having only one eye he navigates through life seemingly without fear or hesitation. Valentino has amazing true black fleece! It is bright and crimpy, with excellent handle, and exceptional uniformity. He has simply amazing fleece but I love him because of his very special spirit and passion for life! I am most anxious to get his yarn back from the mill – it will be SO special! |
| |
| Wallstreet’s Blend o’ Stretch – Simply the best llama ever! Stretch protects from coyotes and keeps order in the herd. He also alerts us whenever something is amiss. There is story after story about this amazing animal and how he has come to my aid! Stretch, you see, knows a barn goddess when he sees one. The boy is no slouch when it comes to fleece either! He has ribbons from his show days. I love him because he keeps us all safe and gives unselfishly. I couldn’t do this without him! One of my next projects is to spin up some of his fleece and make myself something VERY special! |

| |
| Broken Hills Rocky – What we all want in alpaca temperament! Not only that, his lovely medium grey fleece spins like a dream – and he has the ribbons to prove it. I have a shawl from Rocky that is the softest thing ever. It is like wrapping up in a hug! Among the herd he is a true diplomat getting along with everyone, even the “youngsters” who like to test their place in the pecking order. I love him for being an all around good guy and for the very cozy yarn he gives me. |
| |
| Mozart’s Eros – Whatever your mood, Eros will brighten it! His small size does not deter him in any way. In fact, I think what he did not get in stature he more than compensates in fleece. We always receive high marks for staple length in fleece competitions. Eros is everyone’s friend and with ample white fleece he provides me the opportunity to have a rainbow of yarn colors. I love him because he is a wonderful creature and simply a delight to be around. |

| VAF’s Flint Black – Flint is a good-sized alpaca! Thank goodness he is such a gentleman! He has wonderfully fine and soft, true black fleece. I have used his neck and leg fleece for felt projects and it is wonderful! With such nice neck and legs I am anxious to get busy spinning his roving – it is waiting there by the wheel and it is going to make fantastic yarn. I love him because he is so thoughtful and understanding and gives me such nice fleece to create things. |

| |
| VAF’s Leonardo – Leo has wonderful, crimpy and bright bay black fleece. His yarn took a ribbon at MAPACA in the spring of 2010. (Yes, I have some or for sale!) Leo is perhaps not as cuddly as the rest of the family but he tries! We continue to work on “personal space issues” with trust and respect. I love Leo because I know all his fussing is mostly bluff and he just cannot help himself. You see, if he were to get too cozy with me, some alpaca might just misinterpret it to mean they could grab his “spot” in the order of things. I understand, and I have gotten very good at knowing how far he can spit! |

| All of the Carondelet Ridge boys have ribbons from spin-offs or fleece competitions or both! Please see our Products and Services page to view their yarn and other goods. This is good stuff – don’t miss out! |
