Thank you for visiting Carondelet Ridge Alpacas and Fiber Services.  Located in Manassas, Virginia, we are a small fiber-producing farm, with alpacas known in the industry as a Fiber Herd

What makes us unique?

  • All of our alpacas are male. Be sure to click on Our Farm to meet our alpacas and our guard llama, Stretch.
  • Our alpaca boys are shorn once yearly and produce the most wonderfully soft fleece for making into batts, roving, felt, yarn, and finished products.
  • We are not only an alpaca farm – we run a small production nursery called NatureScapes Wildlife Gardens specializing in plants native to Virginia.

Here at Carondelet Ridge we also process fleece for other local alpaca farms!
Do you have alpaca or llama fleeces you would like to turn into something you can sell in your farm store?  Visit our Products and Services page to see picture samples of yarn and finished products as well as prices for show skirting and mill preparation services.

Are you interested in creating a peaceful lifestyle with alpacas of your very own? Contact Us for referrals to some of our wonderful friends with quality alpacas for sale.

We first became interested in alpacas because they are easy to care for, friendly, and gentle on the land.  The whole concept fit perfectly with our Earth Friendly philosophy.  We practice integrated pest management and incorporate alpaca poo into our compost (grows the best tomatoes you have ever tasted!).  Birds, bats, toads, frogs, and a resident box turtle assist in the balancing act.  Parasitic wasps and good clean-up practices keep the fly population to a minimum.  We are even designated as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.  Our alpaca business has grown into a rewarding, satisfying lifestyle.

Whether you are just investigating the world of alpacas, looking for unique products, fiber processing services, or need to book a breeding to a quality herdsire, Contact Us today and we can help.

Why Alpacas?

I started out smitten with these creatures and looking for a new adventure.  OK, call it a mid-life crisis!  I simply had no idea what I was in for.  As often happens one thing leads to another and I now have a yarn addiction.  First I learned to spin; then it was felting.  Next came weaving and now I have a really bad knitting habit.  Who knew?  And yes, I am still smitten.  They are a joy to behold everyday.  You just can’t not smile when you look in the barn and see them with hay hanging out of their mouths and not a care in the world.  There is very special sense of peace when you are caring for the animal that provides the yarn that made the hat you are wearing at that particular moment.  I can’t explain it.  If you are a knitter you really want to try alpaca yarn - it is softer and warmer than a hug!  The alpacas also make wonderful companions and give me plenty of time outdoors for fresh air and exercise!  Earth friendly processing, from fleece to finished products!
